The problem, and what it cost
Dealers could not quote on the spot. A customer would describe what they wanted, the dealer would take it away, and a quote would come back later — by which time some of those customers had bought elsewhere.
Behind that sat a legacy system that was expensive to keep running and slow to change. Every product change meant a round of rework before dealers could sell it.
The cost was measurable in lost conversions and in the annual bill to keep software alive that nobody wanted to touch.
The outcome we agreed to measure
The agreed measure was the time from a customer's requirements to a priced, visualised quote in the dealer's hands, and the proportion of enquiries that converted.
Baseline timings were taken across the dealer network before work started.
What we built
A visual configurator that lets a dealer build the shed with the customer watching — spans, openings, cladding, site constraints — with engineering and pricing rules applied as they go, so what is drawn is buildable and priced correctly.
The output is a quote the customer can act on immediately and a specification the factory can manufacture from without re-keying.
The legacy system it replaced was retired rather than wrapped, so the maintenance bill went with it.
The number
minutes
Configure and quote, start to finish. In production use across the dealer network.
Where it runs now
Dealers across the network configure and quote in minutes, in front of the customer. More sales convert, and product changes now reach every dealer at once instead of one rebuild at a time.
It remains in daily use.
